Get Fit to Ski

Physiotherapy

From December and during the ski season West London Physio provide a comprehensive Ski injuries assessment and ‘get fit to ski’ program.

Whether you need to fix a niggling injury, check for any ski specific weaknesses that put you at risk of injury, or just want to get ‘ski-fit’, you will be pleased you came to see us.

The winter months are busy at West London Physio. We spend much of our time treating ski injuries, most of which are avoidable. Unfortunately skiers underestimate what is required to get through a ski holiday in one piece. About 15% of significant ski injuries involve the Anterior Cruciate Ligament of the knee – an injury which could keep you off the slopes for a year- so it makes sense to do as much as possible to prevent these injuries.

In order to reduce the risk of injury, improve your skiing, and avoid painful thighs throughout the trip, we advise you book in 4-6 weeks before departure. We will thoroughly assess each muscle, joint and ligament that is used while skiing, in order to establish any weaknesses or stiffness. If there is, we will show you specific exercises to address them. If you are in otherwise good shape, we will give you a 4-6 week ski-fit program that will address aerobic fitness, lower limb strength, and core stability/balance. You’ll be amazed at the difference!

Gaitscan

We use the industry leading Gaitscan TM system to assess exactly how your foot functions during gait as you walk or run across a pressure plate. This enables the Physiotherapist to have a clear picture of your foot biomechanics and determine the effect this is having on your ankles, knees, hips and back.
