Pain in the neck and upper back is a common and sometimes debilitating problem.
Neck pain can come from a number of disorders in the neck. These include a degenerative or herniated disc, facet joint injury, posture related neck pain, work related pain, whiplash, or a pinched or aggravated nerve.
Pain can be felt in the neck itself, over the top of the shoulders, or between the shoulder blades. Pain might refer down the arms, or up into the head. Neck injury can produce symptoms that range from severe acute pain, deep aching, restricted movement, and referred pain, pins and needles or numbness to the arm or hands.
At West London Physio, our approach to neck pain is to ensure a full diagnosis is made. This is achieved through a complete assessment of the area. It may involve a referral for xray or MRI scan in some instances. Treatment will then address the cause of the problem. This may involve manual therapy and manipulation to resolve restrictions in the spine, soft tissue techniques to relieve spasm, and exercise and education to correct muscle balance and improve posture.
Our goal is always to achieve a full and correct diagnosis, followed up with the most appropriate and personally devised treatment for the problem.
