Shoulder Pain and Injury

Physiotherapy

The shoulder is a mobile and flexible joint that is capable of lifting large loads. It is this impressive functionality that leaves it vulnerable to injury. Shoulder injuries are often the result or over-head or throwing/swinging sports and activities, repetitive or awkward lifting, or wear and tear.

Pain and injury in the shoulder can be the result of several different conditions. These include impingement syndromes, rotator cuff injury, shoulder instability or dislocation, frozen shoulder, or general wear and tear from sports or overuse.

At West London Physio, we are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder conditions. We understand that every shoulder is unique and requires an individual course of treatment and rehabilitation. For example, an unstable or dislocating shoulder needs specific attention given to the strength and control of the scapular muscles before general strengthening can begin. A shoulder with impingement pain needs a full and careful correction of rotator cuff muscle balance to prevent compression in the sub-acromial space. A stiff shoulder needs to be stretched, mobilized, and retrained.

Regardless of the cause, treatment of the shoulder complex requires an experienced physiotherapist who can test the movements and structures of the shoulder and come to an accurate diagnosis of the problem. Physiotherapy treatment can then focus on the core problem.

Gaitscan

We use the industry leading Gaitscan TM system to assess exactly how your foot functions during gait as you walk or run across a pressure plate. This enables the Physiotherapist to have a clear picture of your foot biomechanics and determine the effect this is having on your ankles, knees, hips and back.
