Back pain, knee and shoulder pain, are just a few of the common conditions we treat…
Our reputation is built on good outcomes so that means we are results focussed, going to great lengths to ensure you are happy with our service.
Most people experience back pain at some point in their lives. Left ignored or treated poorly, it can become chronic. Mismanagement of back pain can lead to dependency on painkillers and alcohol while there are numerous health scams designed to take advantage of the anxiety it causes.
At West London Physiotherapy, we see back pain as an opportunity for intervention. Our physiotherapists will not just treat your pain, they will leave you stronger, more flexible and more confident – reducing the risk of recurrence and empowering you to live life to the full.
Our treatment for back pain includes:
Thorough diagnosis of your musculoskeletal system throughout your body.
A range of specific techniques such as manual therapy, joint mobilisation, manipulation, and acupuncture.
Targeted exercise programmes designed to address your specific vulnerabilities.
Investigation of lifestyle factors, such as desk habits, sleep schedule and physical activity.
And because we can prescribe medication, refer for scans (if needed) and have access to world-class consultants, we can guide you through your recovery from beginning to end, whether your back is powering serves at Wimbledon, keeping you upright at your desk or lifting up the weekly shop.
Our approach to physiotherapy is to recognise the emotional and mental toll of pain, not just the physical. Back pain can cause tremendous anxiety, as people often worry that the cause is related to their nervous system or damage to the vertebrae.
However, our experience and numerous studies have proven that simple hands-on treatment, gradual exercise programmes and lifestyle changes provide the most optimistic outcomes in the vast majority of cases – even amongst sufferers of chronic back pain.
Back pain can be caused by a range of issues. Bulging discs, stiff joints, spasmed muscles, or trapped nerves. No matter how fit, active and healthy you are, any of these are a potential source of your back pain. Figuring out which is the culprit and how best to treat it is what we specialise in.
Back pain can be a persistent injury. Once it is established it usually requires treatment to alleviate the pain and then prevent it from returning. We typically see improvements within 1-3 sessions, and the average number of sessions needed is 5-6. Treatment is initially focussed on reducing pain as quickly as possible. However, in order to prevent the pain from returning it’s important to continue with a specifically designed excercise regime for 2-3 months. This is a home based regime, so you don’t need to keep coming back!
If after 3 sessions pain isn’t improving, we will refer you to a back physician. Very rarely surgery is required. However for 80% of our patients, physiotherapy cures their back issues.
