April newsletter

With summer approaching and the London marathon fresh in the mind, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and get active again. In this newsletter we’ll help you along and introduce our new ‘Couch to 5K’ program that will develop your fitness and have you in great shape before summer.

Through spring, we’ve been busy with clinic development. Our new website has launched, we became one of the first physiotherapy led clinics in the UK to prescribe medication, and we’ve also invested in a ground-breaking device that can help cure long standing tendon injuries.

In this newsletter we’ll explain what these changes mean for you!

Shockwave Therapy

Earlier this year we invested in a new device to help us manage difficult tendon problems better – the Enpuls 2 Radial Shockwave Machine. We are one of the few physiotherapy clinics in London to offer this treatment, and the only physiotherapy clinic in Kensington.

What is it?

Radial Shockwave Therapy is an effective non-invasive treatment that promotes healing and reduces pain in a number of sports and musculoskeletal conditions. Much of the research into shockwave therapy surrounds its use to treat kidney stones. Today, while over 98% of all kidney stones are treated with this technology, it has become increasingly useful for a wide range of sports and musculoskeletal injuries.

How does it work?

The term “shockwave therapy” refers to the mechanical pressure pulses that expand as a wave towards an injured structure. This results in a biological reaction within the cells of that tissue. The shock wave encourages new blood flow and promotes tissue healing. It promotes a new inflammatory response and thereby initiates a healing response.

Now able to prescribe medicines

In 2014 the UK government introduced legislation to allow experienced and suitably qualified physiotherapists to independently prescribe medication.

It’s certainly a progressive change to the health service, and on March 21 West London Physiotherapy became one of the only physiotherapist led independent prescribing practices in the UK.

It means if you suffering from pain or injury you’re now able to receive appropriate medication and pain relief.

For existing patients who are unable to come to the clinic, we are trialing a skype only consultation service. If you’d like to know more about how the changes affect you, please get in touch.
Get Ready to Run

Thinking of adding running to your fitness regime, but don’t know how to get started?

We are now offering patients a supervised program – Couch to 5K. This six week program will teach you the basics of running well. By focusing on breathing, posture, and technique we will be able to progress you to 5km in a way that will optimise performance and help prevent injury. For more information email our resident running experts Kam Sowman or David Wynne.

New website, new logo.

It seems like only yesterday that we launched our first website. While it served its purpose, it was looking long in the tooth and due for a much needed overhaul. But what started out as a seemingly simple re-design turned into an unexpected change in logo. No, we hadn’t been to a brand agency looking to conquer the physiotherapy world with a new identity. We are happy trying to be the best physiotherapists in London.  Rather, our existing logo wouldn’t fit in the current website header without looking a bit silly. The re-design is now complete, so you will gradually see a change on our letterheads, newsletters etc over the coming month or two.

Over the coming year we expect to add an online booking facility, and patient exercise portal, but if you have anything else you’d like to see, we’d love your feedback.
