Recovering from surgery takes time, but with the right physiotherapy, you can regain strength, mobility, and confidence much sooner. At West London Physiotherapy, we specialise in post-surgical rehabilitation, helping patients rebuild after orthopaedic operations with expert care and tailored treatment plans.
“I have worked closely with West London Physio for the last 8 years and have been consistently impressed with their professionalism and their outcomes. My (often physio-weary) patients describe a fresh, positive approach which gives them great confidence and renewed enthusiasm.”

No — you can book directly. Ideally, bring a copy of your surgical report or discharge notes to your first session so we can coordinate with your surgeon from day one.
Post-surgical rehab is typically more intensive than standard physiotherapy. Most joint replacements require 12–24 weeks of structured rehabilitation; ACL reconstruction typically takes 9–12 months to full return to sport. A simple arthroscope may only need a 3-4 weeks. Your physiotherapist will create a phase-by-phase plan at your first appointment, including milestones so you always know where you are in your recovery.
Yes — post-surgical physiotherapy is covered by all major private health insurers. In most cases your insurer will cover a set number of sessions per policy year. Contact your insurer for your authorisation number and let us know when booking.
For many surgeries, physiotherapy should begin within the first 1–2 weeks post-operation — sometimes even earlier for certain procedures. Starting early reduces stiffness, prevents muscle wasting, and speeds overall recovery. Your surgeon will advise on your specific situation, and we work in close coordination with your surgical team.
Some discomfort is normal, particularly in early sessions when restoring range of motion. Our physiotherapists are experienced in post-surgical care and will always work within your tolerance, progressing at a pace that is safe and effective — never pushing beyond what your tissue can handle at each stage.
Yes — where possible, we coordinate directly with your surgical team to ensure your rehab plan aligns with what was performed and your surgeon’s protocols. We have established working relationships with many of London’s leading orthopaedic surgeons.
