Specialist Services

At West London Physiotherapy we utilise a range of technology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients. Below are some of our favourites:

Your foot is in contact with the ground for less than a second when walking, and about .25 of a second when running. Imagine trying to determine normal and abnormal foot function with the naked eye in that time. This is too difficult for even the most experienced practitioners.

Therefore at West London Physiotherapy, we use the industry leading GaitscanTM

The TOG GaitscanTM is an innovative diagnostic tool that allows us to analyse your biomechanics and if required order custom made orthotics. With 4096 sesnors, and a scan rate of 300 frames per second, GaitscanTM is the industry leader in dynamic scanning capabilities.

What does this mean for you?

A new in-depth method of assessing your gait cycle with a dynamic scan gives us access to a wealth of information that cannot be obtained with the naked eye. Over a million points of data are recorded, tracking flaws in your biomechanics and shedding light on issues that if left untreated , could develop into painful conditions over time.

GaitscanTM is a valuable tool that provides us with a comprehensive biomechanical analysis of each patient, along with clear images that help determine the need for orthotics, and most importantly assists us to design treatment programs to correct biomechanical problems.

Dartfish Video Analysis

What is Dartfish?

DartfishTM is the World’s leading video analysis software. It is used by professional teams, universities, and leading sports clinics to improve patient performance.

We use it to analyse your running or walking technique. Using slow motion video we are able to uncover small and large biomechanical problems that often form the underlying basis of your pain or injury. We are able to look specifically at pelvis, hip, knee and ankle control, and determine exactly where the fault is arising from. Everything from foot position to total body alignment can be assessed and reviewed with you to help understand the cause of your pain.

We use it as part of our standard assessment for anyone who has a running related injury, and has changed drastically how we approach the treatment of these injuries.

Compex Muscle Stimulation

“I have seen the biggest changes in muscle strength following surgery in those that use Compex” – Kam Sowman, Neuromusculskeltal physiotherapist.

Often, following surgery or injury muscles become weak and “switch off”. In the past, frequent sessions of physiotherapy were required to re-activate those muscles and help them to strengthen. Today – by using the Compex muscle stimulator – we approach things differently.

Compex uses electrical muscle stimulation to reproduce the body’s natural “neural input” and enable full muscle contraction and recruitment. The technology causes muscles to contract at the most optimal and comfortable level though the use of electrical impulses. When the Compex is applied to a motor nerve, it causes a deep and complete muscle contraction that is often not possible after injury or surgery.

The result is that patient’s recover faster, and are able to complete more efficient rehabilitation regimes that also reduce the risk of re-injury.

For many patients the changes are so drastic in one session that they either rent or buy their own Compex machine.
